We should be responsible for what we believe (the doctrine that we adhere to). It is not enough, to simply rely on what we have heard and been taught.
We have seen great atrocities throughout our history that have been committed in the Name and to the glory of God. Daily we see some group demonstrating for “a cause” all the while vehemently declaring that God has called them to do so.
Yes, these are radical examples and you are probably thinking that you would never become involved in such movements. If you think that you are safe because you refuse to join the angry righteous protests of “the world”… Think again! There is a more subtle occurrence sweeping our culture! We are losing the ability to think and reason for ourselves. Scripture tells us to “… work out your salvation with fear and trembling” Phl. 2:12. We have the responsibility to “study to show ourselves approved” 2 Tim 2:15. Whether we are aware of it or not, we daily demonstrate what we believe to those around us. We have the awesome responsibility of being God Bearers to the world. We bear the responsibility to know what we believe and why we believe it! It is time to practice and live out a faith that is born of spiritual discernment. This can only come about as the Holy Spirit brings revelation to us as we study God’s Word and seek Him on a personal level. His wisdom and understanding then becomes a by-product of that relationship. “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26.
Christian Education at DCFI whether it be the children’s classes or the adult class, encourages questioning, discussion and digging deep into the intent and purpose of the scriptures. Every teaching must hold up to the overall theme and sum of scripture. We search to find ways to make the principles and precepts of scripture applicable to us as individuals, in our relationship with God and each other. Christian Education is essential to our understanding of God’s plan for us as individuals and as the community of God’s people.
